Coronavirus Update
All summer 2020 courses will be online only. Four courses will be offered, all of which will run from June 1 to August 2, 2020. Taking a total of 12 credits is still possible, but most of the on-site activities listed below will not be a part of the experience this year. However, the Outreach Program is also being transitioned online, and participation in this integral part of the program remains a possibility.
Master’s in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MA TESOL) students interested in studying on-site at The New School's Greenwich Village campus can expedite their studies by taking up to 12 credits (four courses) in our summer intensive
program. This is an opportunity to meet and learn from our distinguished instructors in person, interact with your classmates face-to-face, and experience a summer in New York City. For those who are not native speakers and teachers of English,
it's an opportunity to be completely immersed in the language and to apply language skills in a vibrant cosmopolitan setting.
MA TESOL students also teach English as a second or other language students in the New School Summer Outreach
Program, an on-site teaching practicum. The program provides valuable classroom experience for teachers in training while helping to meet the great need in New York City for free English language classes for immigrants.
Housing
Affordable housing is available in university residence halls. You must apply separately for university housing; visit the Summer Housing website for more information. To arrange for on-campus
housing, email [email protected] and identify yourself as a TESOL summer intensive student.
Events and Activities
The summer intensive curriculum includes seminars, guest lectures, field trips, and workshops. We encourage you to take advantage of the cultural opportunities
New York offers beyond the classroom in your own time: See a Broadway play, enjoy a concert in Central Park or at a jazz club, and explore the historical sites, landmarks, and ethnic neighborhoods vital to the city's character.
Schedule
All courses for the Summer Intensive will be held online and will follow this schedule: June 1-August 2, 2020.
