Where were you born, and where did you grow up?
I was born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon.
What languages do you speak?
I speak French, Arabic, and English. French is the language I’m most fluent in.
Do you feel at home in Paris? What challenges are you facing?
Before Parsons, I was enrolled in a French high school. Knowing the language makes me feel at ease in the city.
I believe that the Parisian art scene is the perfect fit for my studies. There’s always a great mix of exhibitions I can get inspiration from. I am also lucky to be surrounded with the city’s cultural richness and heritage.
Paris has definitely become my second home. I grew up in Beirut, a very chaotic city. I find Paris is chaotic as well because of all the events happening at the same time. While the two cities share similarities, they remain very different from a cultural
perspective. A challenge I had to face was to adapt to the French culture.
What course or project you’ve worked on is your favorite?
The project I’ve enjoyed working on most is Deep Eyes, an interactive installation created for my core studio class in the fall semester of junior year. The most exciting part was to exhibit it at the Parsons Paris Benefit Gala 2020.
Have you done an internship? If so, where? What was your experience like?
I participated in a design collaboration with Chesfield and Dolce & Gabbana in the spring semester of sophomore year. A group of Art, Media, and Technology students and I were asked to design the façade of the Dolce & Gabbana store located on Avenue Montaigne.
We had several meetings with representatives of the two companies and refined our designs based on the feedback we were given. It was an enriching opportunity.
Have you participated in Open House at school?
I was asked by the AMT program director to participate at the Open House in fall 2019. It was a nice experience, because I got to present my project to visiting students and answer their questions based on my own experience as an enrolled student.
What kind of housing do you have? What do you appreciate about it? What are the challenges ?
I live in a studio not far from school. I appreciate the fact that it is situated within a very old Haussmanian building which has survived history.
Do you have a hobby outside of school?
I practice photography as a hobby.
What does your typical weekend look like?
On the weekend, I usually try to balance leisure with university work. When it comes to leisure, I usually meet up with friends or visit exhibitions I’m interested in.
What advice would you give incoming students?
Make the most out of your Parisian experience! There is so much to discover, especially in the fields of art and design.
