Lang’s General Degree Requirements
In addition to the requirements outlined here, Lang has specific requirements, including a minimum number of credits in liberal arts courses as well as college residency requirements. All students should read Lang’s General Degree Requirements and consult with both their Student Success advisor and their Departmental Faculty Advisor each semester to ensure that they are on track to graduate.

Requirements for the BA in Theater
As of fall 2020, students declaring the major in Theater must take 12 courses, outlined as follows. Students must earn a grade of C or higher in all courses to meet the requirements for the major in Theater. Declare your major by following the process
outlined in Declaring Your Major. Students who have declared the major in Theater before fall 2020 but
wish to follow the fall 2020 curriculum can consult their Student Success Advisor about submitting a Change of Catalog Year request. Only specific courses satisfy the major requirements, including electives. Courses should be chosen carefully, in
consultation with the Departmental Faculty Advisor and your Student Success advisor. Track your progress using the program worksheet (below). Students in the Theater program at Eugene Lang College take part in seminar classes and develop their craft through innovative acting, directing, and playwriting work. They also take foundational courses in theater history, theory, and dramatic literature.
The program emphasizes civic engagement and global perspectives on theater as well as media and performance. Theater students take courses with students in the Dance, Music, and Visual Studies concentrations.
Major Requirements
Introductory courses (6–8 credits):
- Choose 2 foundational courses in theater practice (6–8 credits):
- LTHR 2050 Acting Fundamentals
- LTHR 2009 Intro to Playwriting
- LTHR 2025 Intro to Directing
Other required courses (24–36 credits):
- 1 LTHR xxxx theater history course (3–4 credits)
- 1 LTHR 2008 production course (0–4 credits)
- 1 LTHR xxxx theater theory course (3–4 credits)
- 1 dramatic literature course (3–4 credits)
- 2 LTHR electives* (6–8 credits)
- 3 Lang Interarts (LINA) courses (9–12 credits)
*You must have a total of 8 elective Theater credits. Only one 2-credit course can be applied to this requirement.
Senior capstone (3–4 credits):
- Choose 1:
- LINA 4900 The Arts Senior Seminar: Essay (offered in spring; 3-4 credits)
- LINA 4990 An approved independent or collaborative project (3–4 credits)
