The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) at the The New School offers advice, guidance, and services in support of the university's goals. The OGC offers legal representation, drafts and reviews contracts, and manages litigation matters and legal risk
to all parts of the university. The OGC provides legal counsel in decision making to the president, executive vice president and COO, provost, vice presidents, deans and directors. We are also responsible for reviewing and coordinating compliance
with complex government regulations covering students and employees and all general regulations involving educational institutions or private universities.
The office is headed by the senior vice president and general counsel, who manages the legal department of the university and serves as the chief legal advisor to the trustees, president of the university, and president's leadership team. Each university
attorney is committed to providing legal support to the New School community and is capable of handling a wide variety of legal issues but specializes in a particular area. All attorneys in the OGC act on behalf of senior staff and
managers in administrative hearings while monitoring and analyzing the complexities of current, proposed, or pending laws, regulations, and other developments that affect New School constituencies.
