New On-Campus Students
A NOTE TO NEW ON-CAMPUS STUDENTS

Welcome!

Please complete each of the steps outlined below so that you are prepared for the start of classes once you arrive on campus.

Log in to MyNewSchool and Check your New School Email Account
You will receive instructions for logging in to MyNewSchool, the university’s web portal where you can access your university email account, financial aid information, and a variety of other online services. You can also use the portal to accomplish some of the steps outlined below.

All new students who have submitted a tuition deposit will receive instructions via email, which will be sent to the email address you provided in your application.

Once you receive these instructions, please log in and check your university email account regularly. While you are enrolled, all official university email communication will only be sent to your university email address.

Apply for housing (if interested in campus housing)
Review housing rates and apply for student housing online by visiting the Student Housing and Residence Life website. Priority deadlines are July 1 (fall semester) and December 1 (spring semester). After the priority deadline, housing assignments will be made as space is available. Housing applications will not be processed until tuition and housing deposits have been received. Complete International Student Services forms (required for international students applying for an I-20 or DS-2019)
International students who need to apply for the I-20 or DS-2019 forms received a link to the International Student Application Packet website in the acceptance letter. This website includes information about how to apply for an I-20 or DS-2019, guidelines for financial documents, instructions and procedures for F-1 transfers, and other important forms and information. If you need this information but have not received the link, contact the Office of Admission. For more information, visit the International Student Services website.

International Students: Apply for your I-20 or DS-2019
If you are an international student, you received in your acceptance letter a link to the International Student Application Packet website. This website includes information on how to apply for your I-20 or DS-2019. If you did not receive this link, contact your school’s admissions office as soon as possible. For more information, visit the International Student Services website.

Complete the financial aid process (if necessary)
In order to receive financial aid, U.S. citizens and eligible noncitizens must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The New School’s code is 002780. Please be sure to read all comments on your Student Aid Report (SAR) and follow up if necessary. Information on applying for financial aid and available financing options for all students can be found on the Student Financial Services website.

International Student Aid Information

Check the status of your financial aid award letter
If you have applied for financial aid and have not received your award letter, make sure your file is complete by logging on to MyNewSchool or calling Student Financial Services at 212.229.8930.

Submit a measles, mumps, rubella, and meningococcal disease immunization form (required)
Your completed form and required documentation must be received before you can register and attend classes.

All degree-seeking students, including international students, are required to submit the immunization form. Be sure to read the instructions on the form carefully. Submit the immunization form and required documentation by fax, email, or mail, as indicated on the form, and verify that you have read the material distributed by The New School on meningococcal disease. You can also read vaccine information provided by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. For more information, visit the Student Health Services website.

Review information on health insurance and the waiver option (required)
All students are automatically enrolled in on-campus student health services and student accident and sickness insurance provided for The New School by University Health Plans. If you are otherwise insured, you must waive your coverage by submitting the online Student Health Waiver Form.  For more information, visit the Student Health Services website.

Request Disability Accommodations
Students interested in requesting disability accommodations must submit the online self-identification form. For more information, visit the Student Disability Services website.

Complete mandatory online tutorials
All new students must complete mandatory online tutorials, including the Code of Conduct, the University Policy on Sexual Harassment, AlcoholWise (for first-time undergraduate freshmen), and Financial Aid Entrance Interview (for Federal Stafford loan borrowers) prior to their arrival. Students who do not complete the online Code of Conduct and Sexual Harassment tutorials will be contacted by the office of Student Rights and Responsibilities. Complete the Emergency Contact Form
All new students must complete the online Emergency Contact Form as soon as possible. If an emergency should arise, it may be necessary for the university to access the information provided on this form.

Submit your photo for the newcard
The newcard is the official form of identification for The New School and your key to various campus services. The newcard functions as your ID, library card, and meal plan declining balance card. If you submitted your photo prior to January 10 you may pick up your card on January 19 and 20 at 6 East 16th Street, lobby between 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. After January 20, preprinted cards can be obtained from the Campus Card Services office as noted below.

If you did not submit your photo prior to January 10, you should go to Campus Card Services, 66 West 12th Street, room 409 to have your photo taken and your newcard printed. Campus Card Services will be open on Tuesday and Wednesday, January 19 and 20 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., on Thursday, January 21 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and on Friday, January 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Sign up for the Dining Dollars meal plan
Meal plans are available to all matriculated students. If you enroll in a meal plan, you can present your ID card at campus dining facilities for meals, snacks, and convenience items. Students residing in certain residence halls are required to enroll in the meal plan (see your housing application).

Sign up for New School Alerts
New School Alerts is a notification system designed to provide quick and reliable mass communication for students, faculty, and staff regarding potential or actual emergencies. To register or update your contact information, log on to MyNewSchool, click on the New School Alerts tab, and follow the instructions.

Update your mailing address
Update your official mailing address at MyNewSchool. All official university mailings will be sent to this address.

Submit your final transcript (required of all students with outstanding final transcripts)
If necessary, request that a final academic transcript for any current studies be sent to the Office of Admission. The university must have your complete academic record before you can register and attend classes.
