You might be surprised, but online classes are not so different from the university’s on-site classes—which are typically small in size and big on discussion. The seminar-style of teaching translates especially well to the web, where even the shyest of students can participate with ease. If you are taking an online class for degree credit, you’ll be happy to know that all online courses are drawn from the university’s curriculum and are designed to integrate with the rest of your program of study. Indeed, you might even have the same professor or classmates online that you would have on campus.
Over 200 web-based classes taught by New School professors are available annually, and can be taken for degree credit, or non-credit. Digital Design, English Language Studies, Fine Art, Graphic Arts, Humanities, Interior Design, Management, Media Studies and Film, Social Science, and Writing.
The university began offering online courses and programs in 1994 with the support of grants from FIPSE, ATT, Citibank, and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. The New School and its degree programs are fully accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. Its credits and degrees are recognized and accepted by other accredited colleges, universities, and professional schools throughout the United States. The New School, a privately supported institution, is chartered as a university by the Regents of the State of New York. |
