APPLICATION DEADLINE:

The Fall 2010 application deadline is January 9, 2010.

An applicant to The New School for Drama must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.  A completed application, application fee, statement of purpose, artistic résumé and headshot, official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate studies, two letters of recommendation, a writing sample (playwriting applicants only) and a production portfolio (directing applicants only) should be submitted to the University Admission Office by the stated application deadline. Applicants are invited to audition based on application submissions.

You can fill out your application, upload your personal essay and artistic résumé—even invite your recommenders to submit their letters online. Please use the application instructions when completing your application. You will still need to mail in your transcripts and any supporting materials, but the online application is the quickest way to start the process. You can use the apply online link to access this application, regardless of the major(s) to which you are applying. If you cannot apply online, please contact the Office of Admission.

Recommendations and Transcripts
Letters of recommendation and/or transcript delivery may take several weeks once requested; you should request these materials as early as possible. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure the receipt of admission materials in a timely manner.

Your recommenders may also submit their recommendations via the web; there are further instructions regarding this within the application.  We recognize that sometimes recommenders would rather mail in their letters; if you have a recommender who prefers to use standard mail, you can download a Recommendation Form for them here.

ALL materials submitted by mail must include a materials cover sheet.  This includes complete downloadable application materials, as well as any materials sent in support of an online application.  Please follow instructions on the form, downloadable below, and attach the form to all mailed-in materials.

A NOTE ON MULTIPLE APPLICATIONS:
We understand that many theatre artists have interests and talents across the disciplines of writing, acting, and directing; therefore, we do allow applications to more than one program in the same year. However, a student will only be admitted into one program; and once The New School for Drama has made an offer of admission, the major is not negotiable. As such, we strongly encourage multiple applications only if the applicant will be equally happy in either of the programs to which she or he is considering applying. If an applicant is considering applying for multiple disciplines but has a preference for one discipline over another, we suggest applying only to that major.
