Commencement 2007

On Friday, May 18, 2007, in Madison Square Garden in New York City, 2,650 graduate and undergraduate students received their degrees at The New School's 71st Commencement ceremony. New School President Bob Kerrey addressed the graduates and conferred honorary degrees and special awards. 2003 Nobel Peace Prize winner Shirin Ebadi delivered the commencement address and received the University-in-Exile Award. Honorary Degree recipients included humanitarian Larry Brilliant, conductor/musician JoAnn Falletta, jazz musician Chico Hamilton, NASA climate expert James E. Hansen, and theater and film director Arthur Penn.
