Routing Interoffice Mail

Interoffice mail should be prepared and ready for pickup by the designated time outlined in the “Schedule of Mail Delivery and Pickup Times” above. The following guidelines will assist you in the correct preparation of Interoffice Mail for delivery to its recipient without delay:

  • Interoffice correspondence should always be placed in interoffice envelopes.
    (re-order interoffice envelopes through Purchasing).
  • When requesting university-wide distribution from Duplicating, the number of copies should be no less than 500 (excluding faculty) or 1,800 with faculty included.
  • Interoffice envelopes should be addressed with the name of the recipient, department and building to insure correct and prompt delivery.
  • Separate your Interoffice mail from all other classes of outgoing mail. For large Interoffice mail distributions, notify the Mail Services supervisor that an inter-university distribution will be arriving.
  • Special Interoffice envelopes that are white, pink, or yellow, and window envelopes, should be separated from regular outgoing mail.
  • Circulars for university-wide distribution do not have to be placed in envelopes.
  • Mannes College of Music located at 150 West 85th Street and David M. Schwartz Fashion Design located at 560 Seventh Avenue are serviced via our daily pouch, which leaves Mail Services at 10:30 A.M.

Please Note: For new employees, staff changes, or changes in a department or office location, forward a memo to Mail Services indicating the new routing or mail stop location.

IMPORTANT: Personal packages will not be accepted or distributed by Mail Services.
