Students are required to participate in performance classes and take major lessons throughout their residency. In addition, at least one nonperformance course must be taken in each semester of residency.

Students whose entrance exams exempt them from certain course requirements may take substitute courses. A performance jury is required in the appropriate concentrations in each year of residency.
