A trademark is any word, phrase, symbol, design, or combination of these things that identifies a brand’s goods or services. It enables customers to recognize a brand in the marketplace and distinguishes the brand from its competitors.

The New School’s trademarks can be found in the documents below:

• New School Brand Guidelines

The Office of the Licensing Department ensures that the New School name and trademarks are used properly.

The New School’s Licensing Program protects and licenses the university’s marks around the world. The program is designed to avoid misrepresentation of the university and uphold its standards to the public.

Any person, business, or organization interested in using the New School name or trademarks for any purpose must have approval from the Office of the Licensing Department.

A variety of products can be considered for a license. Licensed products can include apparel (T-shirts, sweatshirts, shorts, pants, caps, etc.), accessories, stationery items, home products, and decorative items and other gifts. Among the products that the university does not license are alcoholic beverages, tobacco and smoking products, sexually oriented goods, weapons, goods related to gambling or lotteries, and products in poor taste. The New School reserves the right to refuse a license to any person, business, or organization.

The Office of University Trademarks vigilantly monitors its marks to ensure authorized and compliant use, and actively pursues legal action against those who use the marks without authorization.
