Beginning in fall 2024, The New School will guarantee institutional offers of merit- and need-based grant and scholarship funds for the duration of your degree program. You can count on that aid to continue for as long as you are enrolled in the program. We have eliminated GPA renewal criteria for funds and will not adjust any need-based grants based on changes on your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

- When will my aid amounts be locked in?
  
  After confirming the student's housing status and any corrections or adjustments to FAFSA data, we will set the institutional aid amounts. While some amounts are percentage-based, others are flat-rate based on full-time enrollment. In both cases, the finalized award will remain the same for the duration of the student's studies.
- What if I decide to attend part-time?
  
  Students will be able to keep their institutional grants and scholarships for any enrollment status within their degree program (i.e., full-time, half-time, less than half-time, etc.); it will be prorated based on any amounts less than full-time - proportional to enrollment which mirrors proportionality of tuition changes.
- What if I fill out the FAFSA for my second year, and it shows I have significantly more financial resources?
  
  Awarded institutional grants and scholarships will remain the same even if a student's SAI (formerly EFC) score on the FAFSA increases. FAFSA filers should continue to file each year for aid renewal to ensure they receive any other federal or state aid they may qualify for.
- Will my exact scholarships stay the same?
  
  The student’s specific financial aid awards may be substituted with different funds throughout the student’s enrollment as endowed or restricted funds become available, but the overall amounts are guaranteed.
- What if I decide to pursue a different degree?
  
  This guarantee does not apply to changes in degree programs (internal transfers). However, the institution will endeavor to maintain the amounts when a student transfers into programs with comparable cost structures.
- Are there any opportunities to get additional aid?
  
  While The New School will not reduce a student’s award established at enrollment, we have a need-based appeal process and a special circumstances appeal process if the student’s circumstances change on the FAFSA in subsequent years to provide additional aid.
- What if I have to leave in the middle of the degree?
  
  If a student needs to withdraw in the middle of a semester, institutional grants and scholarships will be prorated with a percentage corresponding to the university tuition refund schedule. Merit and need-based scholarships and grants will remain the same for the duration of the degree program with no time limitation. If a student withdraws or takes a leave from the institution and is returning, the student may request a re-evaluation of their aid offer.
